About the Author

Dr.G.Ramachandram, moulded in the Nehruvian and the Gandhian ideals and values, is a man of deep convictions and impeccable personal integrity. He holds a first class Master’s Degree in Political Science from the University of Bombay. A student of Jawaharlal Nehru, he was awarded a PhD by the University of Bombay for his thesis: ‘Jawaharlal Nehru: His contribution to world peace.’ It was the first time that any scholar undertook a full-fledged research on Pandit Nehru, covering the entire period of his Prime Ministership, for a comprehensive assessment of his impact on the world.

His research work was published as a book Nehru and World Peace. The book discusses how Nehru-Menon symbiosis had contributed to mediation in global crises- the Korean War, the Indo-China conflict, the Suez Crisis and the Congo Crisis- and Nehru’s mission to rescue the UN in 1960 when Nikita Khrushchev threatened to pull out the Soviet Union form the world body. It also reveals some historical facts as to how the fighting abruptly stopped midway in Kashmir at Gandhi’s insistence, leaving a part of it under the occupation of Pakistan. Clement Attlee called Nehru ‘a doyen of world statesmen.’ And Bertrand Russell believed Nehru had prevented a world war on more than one occasion.

A Professor of Political Science, he has a distinguished teaching career spanning over three decades. He also has to his credit more than 190 research papers and articles published in leading journals and newspapers. He has participated in around 150 state, national and international seminars and conferences. As the first Principal of Kandivali Education Society’s Shroff College, Mumbai – a State aided ‘A’ Grade autonomous Institution, University of Mumbai- for eighteen years, he had nurtured and guided the College with far-sighted vision and exceptional courage and turned it into a first-rate institution. He is an expert on College administration and campus discipline, a resource person for the Executive Development Programme for College Principals. He has been the Founder Secretary, Association of Indian College Principals.

Retired in 2009, he has published his magnum opus-The Trial by Fire: Memoirs of a College Principal. The autobiography is a rare story of the courage and conviction of a person holding a position of power and authority, refusing to buckle under pressure and commit acts which are unethical and illegal, risking his career time and again in the process. The author had a journey in defiance, fighting relentlessly against the corrupt system. The autobiography has received rave reviews:”An exceptional book...the lifeblood of a noble soul…saga of virtuous struggle versus evil.” A newspaper review: “…autobiography of a quintessentially honest and upright teacher and administrator. His righteous chutzpah is infectious…This one man’s fight to cleanse the Augean stables is not just praiseworthy, it’s exemplary as well. It’s a Bible for the young teachers to mould their academic careers.” The book makes an interesting and inspirational read. It is rich, engaging and extremely truthful.
